From arty banners to handbags - who comes up with this? Art people made the banners that are hung up on lightpoles around downtown Portland. The banners are on their way to becoming recycled handbags.

From July through October, the parking structure at SW Third and Alder will be converted to a giant (400 spaces!) arts fair, where anyone may sell original work. (Which, by the way, is being defined broadly, to include art, crafts, original music CDs, and self-published writing.) There's a $20.00 membership fee, a weekly $15.00 tabling fee, and they take NO commissions on your sales.FYI: seems it's easier to view sundayartmart.com with IE instead of Firefox
Finally got to go to Living Room Theaters over on SW Stark and 10th, a block south of Burnside, and close to the new Ace Hotel. Happily, for the cheapskate in all of us, they have substantially lowered their prices, from $15/showing to $9.00 general admission. *AND* Monday and Tuesday, all movies are $4.50 at all times.
Next time I want to go early and try the food. Unfortunately, at 7:30 on a Tuesday night there was a sad lack of desserts. They do offer full meals, sandwiches, coffee drinks, and have a full bar.
Saw "Where's Molly" a very gentle, wonderful story of a man searching for his lost institutionalized sister. I believe the films are all digital, and shown using a digital projector, so they still have that 'video tape'/Television quality. For me that's fine once in a while, but I really love how film looks with it's softer edges. Regardless, I highly reccomend the film - great storytelling, great story!

The Academy Theater is showing Sing-a-long Wizard of Oz and Sing-a-Long to Grease thru March 15th. So now instead of singing along in the comfort of your living room like a gumby, you can do so in public! The Academy offers pizza, beer, wine, and babysitting. Cheap admission, too. Originally launched in 1948, the Academy Theater was a popular Montavilla destination until its closure in the 1970s. Over the following years, it fell into disrepair, but a full-scale renovation has recently been completed, including careful restoration of the glittering rounded lobby with its soaring, metallic two-story dome. Great attention was paid to every detail of the project.
